چکیده

Abstract. Accurate and reliable solid precipitation estimates for high mountain regions are crucial many research applications. Yet, measuring snowfall at elevation remains a major challenge. In consequence, observational coverage is typically sparse, the validation of spatially distributed products complicated. This study presents novel approach using daily snow water equivalent (SWE) by cosmic ray sensor on two Swiss glacier sites to assess performance various gridded products. The ground observations available during four winter seasons. three readily-available data based different sources (gauge-based, remotely-sensed, re-analysed) assessed in terms their accuracy compared reference. Furthermore, we include set, which corresponds remotely-sensed product with local adjustment independent SWE measurements. We find large bias all monthly seasonal resolution, also shows trend. Moreover, largely depends situ wind direction events. varying can be partly explained compilation background underlying basis.

Multi-date ERS tandem interferogram analysis: application to alpine glaciers

Temperate glaciers are an indicator of the local effects of global climate change. For economical and security reasons in the surrounding areas, the monitoring of those geophysical objects is being a necessity. SAR data are expected to provide dense measurements of physical parameters which are necessary to detect significant changes and to constrain glacier flow models. In this paper, five des...

Strong spatial variability of snow accumulation observed with helicopter-borne GPR on two adjacent Alpine glaciers

This study compares high-resolution helicopter-borne radar measurements to extensive groundbased profiling of the snow cover on Findeland Adler Glacier, Switzerland. The results demonstrate that derived accumulation values of either method are well in accordance. The spatial distribution of radar based snow depth allows a clear distinction of three zones of different accumulation characteristic...

Monitoring of Wet Snow and Accumulations at High Alpine Glaciers Using Radar Technologies

Conventional studies to assess the annual mass balance for glaciers rely on single point observations in combination with model and interpolation approaches. Just recently, airborne and spaceborne data is used to support such mass balance determinations. Here, we present an approach to map temporal changes of the snow cover in glaciated regions of Tyrol, Austria, using SAR-based satellite data....

Evaluation of monthly gridded precipitation data products ERA-Interim, PERSIANN-CDR, PERSIANN-CCS and CRU over Khuzestan province

Deficiency and inappropriate distribution of reengage station is one of challenges faced by researchers in hydrology and climate science. In this research, evaluate the applicability of four gridded precipitation data products ERA-Interim, PERSIANN-CDR, PERSIANN-CCS and CRU as a supplement or substitute for ground data in a monthly time scales. This assessment was done by comparison with observ...
